Grape Juice Is Under Intense Study for Its Anti-Cancer and Anti-Aging Nutrients
Historical Highlights
Grapes are believed to be oldest cultivated fruit! Fossilized vines have been discovered dating to the Bronze Age (4000 – 1200 BCE). Evidence of wine dates back further as residue discovered in pots 10,000 years old in the Asian country of Georgia.
Wine is often considered the oldest man-made medicinal! It was used to protect against disease, treat wounds and poor digestion, ease pain in child birth, relieve lethargy, lessen intestinal distress, protect blood vessels, prevent heart disease and relieve sinus problems. It was also deemed a safe substitute for water. Wine was even employed to slow loss of mental acuity and delay dementia!
Ancient Egypt and Greece, as well as early Islamic history, had many traditional uses of wine in medicine and religion. Wine was considered more effective than any other medicine! Today many of the ancient nutritional properties of grapes (and wine in moderation) have been found scientifically sound!
Amazing Benefits
Grape juice has no cholesterol and very few calories. It is rich in essential nutrients which reduce the risk of viral and fungal infections, Alzheimer’s disease, and high blood pressure.
And grapes show promise as cancer fighters! Grape juice is high in resveratrol which has been found to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Some studies show surprisingly strong anti-aging factors, but more recent research is calling into question these anti-aging claims. However, the latest study completed this year supports earlier studies that show anti-aging factors.
Grapes are high in vitamins C, A, K, thiamin, riboflavin and pyridoxine. They provide a rich source of the electrolyte potassium. Grapes are a good source of the minerals iron, copper and manganese. Antioxidant enzymes formed by the combination of copper and manganese assist in cleansing the body of unhealthy free radicals.
Green and white grapes contain antioxidants known as ‘catechins.’ Like ‘anthocyanins’ in red grapes, these provide protection against many diseases.
